Our founder and MD Marc Begg recently received the honour of being granted The Freedom of the City of London; a traditional honour given by the City of London Corporation in a ceremony originally dating back to 1237.
For centuries the privilege of the freedom was eagerly sought by all who wished to prosper in the City of London. Before the 19th century it was an essential pre-requisite for everyone who wanted to keep a shop or exercise a trade or craft within the City.
Freedom, or right to trade, was closely linked to the city livery companies who administered, regulated and promoted their respective trades.
Marc is a proud member of the Ironmongers Livery Company. One of the Great XII Livery Companies of the City of London, with links to the Iron trade reaching back 700 years. The Company administers six charities, focussed on the education of the young, the care of the elderly, metals and materials science.
